Geneva (Asian independent) Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), the global media safety and rights body, condemned the murder of digital journalist Nazar Muhammad Kanrani in Jaffarabad locality of Balochistan in western Pakistan. The resident of Sohbatpur locality was shot dead on 4 August 2026 by an armed man in Ladies Bazar area of Dera Allahyar town. Kanrani (40), an office bearer of Awami Press Club Sohbatpur, received multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. The police have already arrested a suspect (identified as Hafiz) and continued the investigation. “We in PEC express concern over continued attacks on scribes in south Asian nations, where the culprits usually get immunity from the political clouts. Pakistan lost 5 media workers to assailants last year and Nazar Muhammad Kanrani becomes the second media professional this year till date (first being Lala Israfil Khan of HUM news channel). Globally he becomes the 43rd victim since 1 January 2026,” said PEC president Blaise Lempen.
