(Asian independent) Today, the children of Government Primary School Virk and Government Senior Secondary Smart School Virk were taken on an educational trip by S. Tarlochan Singh Virk who studied at the Secondary School 58 years ago
and emigrated to England in 1967 but left his hart in Virk Pind. Thanks to the efforts of community-minded individuals such as him, students get the opportunity to visit historical and religious sites, broadening their knowledge and understanding. Seeing things with one’s own eyes is always
more impactful than simply reading about them in books. With this objective in mind, S. Virk first took the children to Gurdwara Sri Sukhchainana Sahib, a sacred site associated with the Sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Thereafter, they visited the ancestral home of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Ji at Khatkar Kalan. At the museum there, students were given valuable insights into India’s history through its various galleries. The children listened attentively and showed great interest in the fascinating information presented to them. During their visit to Sardar Bhagat Singh Ji’s ancestral home, the children were also introduced to aspects of our traditional heritage and culture. Throughout this educational excursion, the schoolteachers, Mrs Kulwinder Kaur, Mrs Jatinderjit Kaur and Mrs Santosh, maintained excellent discipline among the students and provided them with the necessary guidance and information. The Senior Secondary School in-charge, Mr Jaswinder Singh, and the Head Teacher of the Primary School, Mrs Paramjit Kaur, praised the efforts of S. Tarlochan Singh Virk and expressed their sincere gratitude to him. A personal observation: This is a lovely acknowledgement of your contribution. The article highlights not only the educational value of the trip but also the importance of community service in helping children connect with their history, religion and heritage. One of the organisers of the trip pointed out that “ Educational trips are one of the best ways of making friends, learning about our vast rich history and above all they are very enjoyable for everyone.”
