Oregon State’s wildlife safari: Walking around Africa while sitting in America

America    (Asian independent)   (Harjinder pal Chhabra) Punjabis visiting America are often asked what did they see most in America? Most people take the name of Disneyland or the Grand Canyon. But my best friend Kabaddi promoter Manmohan Grewal alias Mohana Jodhan made the unique place impossible whose impact will remain on my life. Usually in Africa there are wildlife parks to see but we have walked around Africa in America. There’s a place in the town of Winston, Oregon where you can touch lions, leopards and giraffes from your car window. That is Wildlife Safari, a jungle that conserve wild animals and give a constructive message to the society.

History – beginning from a man’s dream:

The story of a wildlife safari begins 1972. A white nature lover named Frank Hart often visited Africa. He saw the world’s rarest animals being extinct. He thought why not build a place in America’s Pacific Northwest where these animals can be safe.

In 1972 he took 600 acres of land and opened a park. It became a non-profit organization in 1980. Meaning the government does not earn it, all the money is spent on the care of animals. This is one of the selected private zoos in America which has been recognized by AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums)

What did you see inside the wildlife safari?

We set up a drive-thru safari (4.5 miles) in the car with our families that looked pretty scary.

This is the main attraction. You walk slowly (10 mph) in your car. The animals are all let loose.

Stage one sightings of the Africa Plains here are zebra, watusi bull, kudu deer, ostrich, white rhino, hippo, and a 20 foot giraffe. These giraffes come up to your car and even put their head in.

– ASIAN ZONE: Sumatran tiger, Siberian tiger, and Oregon’s only African elephant.

Also saw black bears, brown bears, lions and cheetahs and other dangerous animals. The car windows have to be kept closed here. Vehicles with open roof are prohibited here.

Safari Village – where walking is free:

After a carriage safari you come to a village. The important thing is that it doesn’t cost a ticket to visit here.

Here you will see: red panda, flamingo, alligator, cougar, lemur, maned wolf (only here in Oregon), and miniature horses on goats in Petting You for Kids.

3. World’s number 1 cheetah breeding center:

It is the park’s biggest achievement that while there are only 10,000 wild leopards left worldwide, the park has produced more than 259 leopard cubs since 1972.

This is the most successful cheetah breeding program *world’s number 1 and earth’s number 2* outside Africa. Cheetah cubs here are sent to other zoos in the US so that the species can survive. Once upon a time, the friendship of a cheetah named Jai and a dog named Rahino made news in the whole world. The fact is that this forest teaches you a whole new experience of the world.

Elephant car wash

Here the elephants wash your car with water, but guarantee that the car will not be clean, but will become dirtier, children are very happy.

Wildlife safari is a paradise for photographers. At 9am the animals are fed, that’s when they are most active. This is a perfect time for a photo.

High school kids here also take Ecology, Math classes, and Summer Camp looks like in the summer. During my trip to Australia in 2019 I saw this kind of wildlife in Melbourne “National Park” after that I had the chance to see how these wild animals live in the US.
