AVM & FAI Raise Key Passenger & Infrastructure Issues with New Amritsar Airport Director

Delegation Welcomes New Director; Appreciates Initiative to Provide Regular Flight & Traffic Updates

Amritsar, Punjab  (Asian independent)  A delegation of Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) and the FlyAmritsar Initiative (FAI) recently met and formally welcomed the newly appointed Airport Director of Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, Sh. Bhupendra Singh, at his office at the airport. The meeting was held to discuss long-pending passenger services and infrastructure upkeeping & terminal upgradation issues. During the meeting, the delegation apprised the Airport Director of several critical concerns faced by passengers, including the parking overcharging issue, the need for improved passenger assistance and customer service by airline and ground-handling staff, challenges related to inline X-ray baggage operations, the condition of toilet facilities, and leakages in parts of the terminal building. The delegation also emphasized the importance of stronger monitoring, accountability, and service standards to ensure a smooth, transparent, and dignified passenger experience.The delegation further discussed incentive policies being offered by Chandigarh Airport to airlines and stressed the need for similar measures to be pursued for Amritsar Airport, along with the allocation of preferred slots to international carriers, to strengthen global connectivity from Punjab. Airport Director, Bhupendra Singh responded positively to the feedback and briefed the delegation on the corrective actions already initiated at his level as well as his ongoing follow-up on airport expansion plans to meet growing passenger demand.The AVM delegation included Patron Manmohan Singh, General Secretary Yogesh Kamra, Senior Vice President Rajwinder Singh Gill, Jatinderpal Singh, and Karan Singh. In a statement, AVM and FAI appreciated the efforts of the airport management and staff during the recent Indigo flight disruptions, where special care was taken to assist passengers, including the elderly, families with young children, and travelers with special needs. FlyAmritsar Initiative Global Convener Sameep Singh Gumtala (USA) further welcomed the authority’s initiative of posting daily airport updates, including the latest fog disruptions, on the airport’s social media platforms. He specifically praised the inclusion of the Punjabi language, calling it a meaningful step toward better communication withpassengers. AVM and FAI reiterated their commitment to working collaboratively with airport authorities to enhance passenger services, improve infrastructure, and strengthen Amritsar’s position as a key international gateway for Punjab.
