When a politician faces serious accusations, the normal response is simple: open the books, launch an inquiry, clear your name. Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, is doing the opposite. And people are asking why.
A retired Metropolitan Police detective has publicly accused Khan of overseeing a cover-up. He claims his investigations into grooming gangs were systematically shut down. Investigations by national newspapers have found evidence of young girls being raped in London hotels by groups of men. Official police inspection reports from 2016 to 2025 document at least six potential victims, including a 15-year-old raped by numerous men and a 17-year-old given alcohol before being attacked by several men.
These are not rumours. These are documented cases in official reports.
The Obvious Solution He Refuses
In February 2025, the London Assembly voted on whether to spend £4.49 million on an independent inquiry into grooming gangs in London. Khan’s Labour party, along with Green, Liberal Democrat and Independent members, voted it down 16 to 9. The inquiry was blocked.
Khan’s office said London didn’t need its own inquiry because other cities were having theirs. But this makes no sense. If local inquiries work best, as his own government claims, why refuse one for London? Why is every other city allowed to examine its problems except the capital?
The Denial That Doesn’t Add Up
When questioned directly about grooming gangs in London, Khan has been evasive. He asked for clarification on what the term even means. When finally pressed, he said police told him there are “no reported cases and also no indication of grooming gangs” in London. Then he added it “could have happened.”
But we know it happened. The victims are in the official reports. The cases are documented. So why is the Mayor of London claiming there are no reported cases when the reports exist?
What Is He Protecting?
If Khan has nothing to hide, an inquiry would clear his name. It would show he had no involvement in any cover-up. It would prove the critics wrong. Instead, he blocks it.
Some believe the real reason is this: a full London inquiry would prove these gangs are not just a problem in northern towns like Rotherham and Rochdale. It would show they operate across the entire country, including in the capital. It would reveal the full scale of the problem has been hidden from the British public.
An inquiry would ask uncomfortable questions. Why were investigations shut down? Who gave those orders? Why were police reports documenting child rape victims not acted upon? Which officials knew and did nothing?
The Pattern We’ve Seen Before
Britain has been here before. In Rotherham, Rochdale, Telford, and Oxford, authorities ignored the abuse of thousands of young girls for years. Police were afraid of being called racist. Council officials were more worried about community relations than protecting children. When the truth finally came out, the scale of the betrayal was staggering.
Now we’re being told London is different. London is clean. Nothing to see here. But the victims are documented. The reports exist. And the Mayor refuses an inquiry.
If you are innocent, you welcome investigation. If you have nothing to hide, you don’t block inquiries. If children have been harmed on your watch, you do everything possible to find out what happened and punish those responsible.
Sadiq Khan is doing none of these things.
The question isn’t complicated: If there’s nothing to hide, why won’t you let the authorities look?
Until Khan can answer that question honestly, the accusations will not go away. And they shouldn’t.
