STATEMENT – Indian Workers Association (Great Britain)

The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) has noted with concern the report published in Asian Express regarding the misuse of the identity and photograph of Meena Kumari in connection with a high-profile rape case circulating on social media.

We have known Meena Kumari for many years and have worked alongside her on several initiatives addressing domestic violence and promoting safety and dignity within the community. She has consistently supported both women and men who face abuse, injustice or difficult personal circumstances, and her commitment to helping vulnerable people is widely recognised.

The misuse of someone’s identity and photograph in such a serious matter is deeply distressing and unacceptable. Such actions can cause unnecessary harm to individuals and their families and undermine the important work carried out by those who dedicate themselves to helping others.

The Indian Workers Association (GB) stands in full solidarity with Meena Kumari at this difficult time. If she requires any assistance or community support, we will always be ready to help.

At the same time, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting both women and men who face injustice, harassment or misuse of their identity. Everyone deserves dignity, fairness and protection.

We also urge everyone to act responsibly when sharing information online and to avoid circulating inaccurate or misleading material that may harm innocent individuals.
