Leicester- The multi-cultural city of Leicester’s annual religious procession, Nagar Kirtan, which is now in its 40th year will be taking place on Sunday 26th April 2026 from the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, 9 Holy Bones, Leicester LE1 4LJ at approximately 11.30 am. Leicester was one of the first cities in the UK when the Sikh religious processions began in 1986. In the early religious processions in Leicester, it began from the city centre place of worship Guru Nanak Gurdwara and finished at the De Montfort Hall and included Fun Fair in Victoria Park.

The route for the Sunday religious procession is Great Central Street, Vaughan Way, St. Nicholas Circle, High Street, Humberstone Gate, Charles Street, Sparkenhoe Street, St. Peters Road, East Park Road, Blankyn Avenue, Nottingham Street, Leicester Street and Roseberry Street.

A very special Palki Sahib has been made by Arron Singh, Jatinder Singh and other Gursikhs to carry the Sikh scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
A very special meeting regarding the preparation of the religious procession Nagar Kirtan took place at Guru Nanak Gurdwara at 2.00 pm on 12th April which was successful and well attended. President of the Gurdwara Ajmer Singh Basra “ thanked everyone for attending and congratulated the Sadh Sangat Ji on the Khalsa Sajna Divas Vaisakhi”.

Blessed members of the community Guru Ki Piari Sadh Sangat Ji are doing flower arrangements to decorate the various lorries all day on Saturday 25th April. Baptised ceremony, Amrit Sanchar will take place at Guru Nanak Gurdwara at 2.00 pm on Saturday 25th April in the Upstairs Diwan Hall. Kakaars will be provided by the Gurdwara Sahib but those wishing to take Amrit must do Kesri Ishnan.

In celebration of the religious procession Nagar Kirtan Sri Akhand Pathh Sahib Ji, continuous reading of the Sikh Scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahibs by Sadh Sangat Ji will start on at Guru Nanak Gurdwara and Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara on Friday 24th April at 10.00 am and conclude with Bhog of Sri Akhand Pathh on Sunday 26th April at 10.00 am.

Upon arrival at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara Ardaas by Giani Malook Singh, Head Priest of the Gurdwara will take place after which Kirtan Darbar will take place at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara’s main diwan hall in which Kirtan Jatha, Kathawachik, Dhadi Jatha and Panthik speakers will inform the Sadh Sangat about Khalsa Sajna Divas and Sikh History.
Food and other educational stalls will be provided in the Nottingham Street car park near the Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara.

0ne of the Volunteers/ Sewadars Amarjit Singh pointed out “ It is utmost important that the Sadh Sangat Ji listen to the Volunteers/Sewadars so that Nagar Kirtan is safe and successful from the beginning to the end.”
