Nawanshahr, (Asian independent) (Jatinderpal Singh Kaler ): Political activity has intensified across the state regarding the death case of Gulzar Singh Dirba, who prominently raised the sensitive issue of drugs in Punjab. Following this, under the directions of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, District Congress Committee Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar staged a strong protest outside the SSP office in Nawanshahr. During the protest, Congress leaders and workers raised slogans against the Punjab government and expressed their anger by burning the effigy of state Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. On this occasion, District President Ajay Mangupur and other leaders strongly demanded that a fair and high-level investigation be conducted into this serious case related to the death of Gulzar Singh Dirba so that the truth can come out. Following the protest, a memorandum addressed to the DGP Punjab was submitted by Congress leaders to the SSP Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, demanding the immediate registration of an FIR and arrest of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Congress leaders said that the menace of drugs is taking a horrifying form day by day in Punjab, and the safety of every voice raising this dangerous issue must be ensured. They clarified that the Congress party will continue to raise its voice until the victim’s family gets justice and strict legal action is taken against the responsible persons.
