Jalandhar (Asian independent) Ambedkar Mission Society (Regd.) Punjab organized a seminar on the topic ‘Current Status of Indian Economy in the Context of Dr. Ambedkar’s Thoughts’ at the historical place Ambedkar Bhawan, Dr. Ambedkar Marg, Jalandhar. Dr. Sucha Singh Gill (eminent economist) was the chief speaker and former principal Dr. Kulwant Singh Phul attended the event as the special speaker. General Secretary of the Society Baldev Raj Bhardwaj welcomed everyone and informed about the formation and activities of Ambedkar Mission Society. The Chief Advisor of the Society, Mr. Charan Das Sandhu, introduced the guests and conducted the stage well. The Chief Speaker, Dr. Sucha Singh Gill, in his speech, said that after independence till 1980, the governments made efforts to realize the dreams of the freedom fighters and the constitution makers. Insurance and banking sectors were brought under the public sector for the welfare of the people. Heavy industry was nationalized and plans were made for equal distribution of profits and public distribution system. Education was made accessible to the common people by opening higher educational institutions. Of course, Dr. Ambedkar Sahib’s plan to nationalize land and establish cooperative farms could not be implemented, but efforts were made to control the feudal system through land sealing. But in the late 1980s, the government of V. P. Singh and then the government of Narasimha Rao turned everything upside down under the plan of privatization and liberalization and today everything has become out of the reach of the common man. The necessary amenities and human rights being taken away can be achieved only by rising above caste and religion and continuously struggling against the current economic conditions like the movement for freedom. Dr. Kulwant Singh Phul, in his research essay, presented a comparative study of the economic policies of Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar, the 
architect of the Indian Constitution and world-renowned economist, with references to his writings and books, and the efforts made by governments in different periods for the reconstruction of India after independence. Dr. Phul, through his statistical research paper, made a deep impression on the minds of the intellectual audience present at the seminar by mentioning the economic achievements and failures. He said that the current economic conditions have made it difficult for Indians to live their lives. Eminent journalist Satnam Singh Manak said that in the first few decades of the country’s independence, Dr. Ambedkar, following the footsteps and ideology of Jawaharlal Nehru and other wise leaders, adopted a mixed economy and achieved tremendous development in industry, agriculture, health facilities, education system, and opening banks in villages. But from the 1990s to the present, privatization and economic liberalization have destroyed everything, including the lack of education, employment, and health facilities for the middle class of the common Indian. The president of the society, Professor Balbir Ji, thanked everyone and asked them to be vigilant about their rights. On this occasion, Dr. G. C. Raj Angurana, Malkit Singh, Madan Lal, Sukhdev Raj, Paramjit Singh, Jarnail Singh, Principal Tirath Basra, Former DSP Daljit Singh, Darshan Singh, Prof. G. S. Bhatt, Narinder Lekh, Kashmiri Lal, Vasu Dev,, Dr. Mahinder Pal Dalia, Balwinder Kumar Dalia, Sukhcharan Kumar, Dr. Satpal, Dr. Madan Lal, Ram Saroop Bali, C. R.
