Punjab Government working at grassroots level to completely eradicate drugs: Malvinder Singh Kang

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar,   (Asian independent)   (jatinder pal singh kaler ) Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib Malvinder Singh Kang today reiterated the Punjab Government’s firm commitment to completely eradicate drugs from the state during a district-level review meeting held under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign. Presiding over the meeting at the local District Administrative Complex along with senior police and civil officials, local administrative representatives and members of Nasha Mukti Morcha, the Member Parliament said that the Punjab Government was working at the grassroots level to completely eradicate the menace of drugs, with positive results becoming visible. Accompained by Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, SSP Tushar Gupta, State Observer Nasha Mukti Morcha Ashit Kumar, Doaba Coordinator Atin Agnihotri, District Coordinator Dinesh Suri, Halqa In-charge Jaspreet Singh Robby Kang and Satnam Singh Jalwaha, Chairman, Improvement Trust; Mr. Kang said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was committed to eliminating drugs. Under this initiative, thousands of drug smugglers had been sent behind bars, while serious efforts were being made to send drug addicts to de-addiction centres and ensure their rehabilitation. The MP directed the police and civil administration to take priority action against drug hotspots identified by Village Defence Committees to curb the menace in these areas. Mr. Kang appreciated the role of Nasha Mukti Morcha in the fight against drugs and urged its members to work with greater determination. He said the committees were playing an important role in spreading awareness, identifying suspicious persons and supporting the police and administration in making areas drug-free. He directed police officials to work in better coordination with the civil administration and local residents to implement the campaign effectively at the grassroots level. He stressed regular meetings at the Assembly constituency level involving DSPs, Nasha Mukti Morcha coordinators and public representatives. The MP said the Punjab Government had also strengthened the de-addiction infrastructure to ensure proper treatment and rehabilitation of every person caught in the grip of drugs. He appealed to all sections of society to actively participate in the campaign to protect the younger generation from drugs. Earlier, local leaders and party representatives present at the meeting emphasised collective participation in the fight against drugs. They appealed to all sections of society to become partners in the government’s efforts to keep youngsters away from drugs, saying that the dream of a drug-free ‘Rangla Punjab’ could be realised only through collective efforts. Sharing details of action taken by the district police under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign from March 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026, SSP Tushar Gupta said that 888 cases had been registered and 993 accused arrested. In a crackdown on the financial network of the drug mafia, properties worth Rs 3.75 crore belonging to major smugglers had been attached, while seven properties had been demolished.

The SSP further said that during the past one-and-a-half months, 31 drug-related accused had been arrested from 12 drug hotspot areas. He said the police had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and strict action was being taken against those involved in the drug trade. He added that several cases had been registered during July and August. He appealed to people to share information regarding drug-related activities with the administration and police, assuring that the identity of informers would be kept confidential. Giving information during the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh said that the administration was working with complete seriousness and transparency under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign to make the district drug-free. Ground-level efforts were being made to break the drug supply chain and ensure proper rehabilitation of drug-affected persons. He assured that no laxity would be tolerated on this serious issue. Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinderjit Singh said that more than 600 addicts trapped in drug addiction had been provided treatment this year to help reconnect them with the mainstream of society. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjeev Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Avneet Kaur, SDMs of various subdivisions of the district, DSPs, BDOs, Executive Officers of Municipal Councils, members of Village Defence Committees and coordinators of Nasha Mukti Morcha were also present.
