Demand to Include a ‘No Religion’ Column for Non-Religious People in Census Forms
Decision to Launch Public Campaign for Passage of Anti-Superstition Law in Punjab
 Barnala   (Asian independent)   The state annual conference of the Tarksheel Society Punjab was held at Tarksheel Bhawan, where 120 leaders and members from the state committee, various zones, and units across Punjab participated. On this occasion, decisions were taken to launch a public campaign for the passage of an anti-superstition law in Punjab, further strengthen the rationalist movement organizationally, and take rationalist literature to every section of society on a large scale.
                        A strong demand was also made to the Central Government to ensure that the census form includes a “No Religion” column for non-religious people.
                    During the first session of the conference, heads of various departments of the society presented reports on the work done over the past year. While discussing these reports, rationalist leaders stressed the need for regular meetings of zones and units, training workshops, and timely implementation of the state work plan to strengthen the organization. They also outlined a special campaign to involve youth, students, women, and teachers with the society. Earlier, state organizational head Master Rajinder Bhadaur welcomed the delegates and attendees.
                    During the second session, leaders said that to develop interest among people in reading rationalist literature, the rationalist literature van should be taken to schools, colleges, and universities, and participation in book fairs across Punjab was also necessary. Special efforts should also be made to take the rationalist magazine to every village, town, library, office, and factory.
                  Satisfaction was expressed that the society has achieved major success in spreading scientific thinking among different sections of society through campaigns for body donation after death, eye donation, and organ donation, along with opposition to exploitation by fraudulent godmen, wasteful orthodox rituals and customs, dowry, and the social evil of drug abuse.
                       In the discussion, several rationalist leaders participated, including Master Parmved, Surjit Tibba, Ajit Pardesi, Jaswinder Phagwara, Hem Raj Steno, Rajpal Bathinda,Ram Swarn Lakhewali,Sumeet Amritsar, Sukhwinder Bagpur, Joginder Kullewal,Sukhdev Phagwara Rajesh Aklia,Gurpreet Shehna,Jaswant Mohali, Jujhaar Longowal,Kuljit Fazilka and others.
