The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) strongly condemns the racist and dangerous comments made by Conservative MP Katie Lam, who suggested that legally settled families in Britain should be deported to make the country “culturally coherent.”

These remarks are a direct attack on the millions of migrants who have made the United Kingdom their home, contributed to its economy, and enriched its culture. Such language belongs to the politics of hate and division, not to a modern democratic Britain that values fairness, equality, and the rule of law.

Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary of IWA(GB), said:

“Katie Lam’s statement is deeply offensive and utterly unacceptable. Families who came here legally, work hard, pay taxes, and contribute to the life of this nation are Britain. They staff our hospitals, drive our taxis, work in factories and shops, and care for our elderly. To tell them to ‘go home’ is not only racist but a betrayal of the values Britain claims to stand for.”

Gill called on Kemi Badenoch, Leader of the Conservative Party, to publicly disown and discipline Katie Lam for her remarks:

“If the Conservative leadership stays silent, that silence will be seen as complicity. Britain’s political leaders must stand up against hate speech and defend the rights of all law-abiding people who live here.”

The IWA(GB) also urges Prime Minister Keir Starmer to reaffirm his government’s commitment to protect the rights of all legally settled residents and to reject any proposals that threaten Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or citizenship rights.

“We remind all parties that Britain was built through the labour and sacrifice of immigrant communities. Any attempt to divide us along racial or cultural lines will be resisted,” Gill added.

The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) stands firmly in solidarity with all migrant and minority communities. We will continue to oppose racism, discrimination, and extremist rhetoric in every form — whether it comes from politicians, policies, or the media.
