Gangaur and Holi Celebrations in Glasgow, Scotland

(Asian independent) Scotland is a land of rich heritage, deep traditions, and vibrant multiculturalism – far more diverse than many realise. And what better way to celebrate this cultural harmony than with a grand fusion of Gangaur and Holi, uniting the Scottish and Indian spirits in a spectacular display of devotion, colour, and joy!

The event, graced by Indian Consulate General, Shri Azad Singh Ji, along withSuryaveer Singh Ji, Piyush Bhai, Sujeet Ji,& was hosted by Scottish Bhartiya Samaj (SBS) in association with the Marwari International Federation at Woodside Hall, Glasgow. Against the backdrop of Scotland’s historic charm, the Rajasthani diaspora came together to honour Gangaur, one of Rajasthan’s most cherished festivals. Women, dressed in vibrant Bandhani, Leheriya, and embroidered poshaks, adorned with intricate mehndi and traditional jewellery, sang age-old folk songs and prayed to Goddess Gauri, invoking blessings of marital bliss and prosperity. The event was more than a festival – it was a heartfelt tribute to heritage, a reminder that traditions live on, no matter the distance from home.

Just as Gangaur symbolised devotion, Holi added the spirit of uninhibited joy. As gulal filled the air and electrifying DJ beats set the mood, the festival of colours became a celebration of togetherness. Traditional folk dances captivated the audience, and the aroma of authentic Rajasthani cuisinefrom refreshing Thandai to crispy starters and a lavish main course brought the flavours of India to Scottish soil.

This unforgettable evening was made possible by the incredible support of our Super Sponsors: Dr Rashmi Mantri, Manoj Maheshwari, Sachin Mittal, Meenu, Tribhuvan, Abhishek Vijay, Mukesh Mittal, Punita, Kshitij, Chintan, Tushar, Ashish Jain, and Sudhir, whose generosity and commitment to cultural celebration ensured the event’s success.

Scotland is home to more culture than we often acknowledge, and this event was the perfect examplewhere heritage met happiness, colours embraced tradition, and every heart beat to the rhythm of unity. This was more than a festival; it was a statement – that no matter where we are, our traditions thrive, our identities shine, and our celebrations bring us closer together.
