IIW – ‘Sky is not the limit’

THE ASIAN INDEPENDENT UK-

IIW, which is well known for bringing platforms and opportunities for women to shine, started the year with a bang!! On 10th January, World Hindi day was celebrated by them at the prestigious venue of Nehru Centre. The event was attended by distinguished Guests Author and Poet Shashi Mathur, Former MP Virendra Sharma, Anchor Ravi Sharma, Warrant Officer Ashok Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Hertsmere Parveen Rani, Founder India Welfare Society Suresh Kumar Gupta, Renowned Poet Ashish Mishra, Uttar Pradesh Community Association prominent members Santosh Pandey and Rajesh Vishwakarma, Councillor Kaza, Author and Philanthopist Manju Lodha Poet and Teacher Indu Barot, Author , Poet and Singer Dr Gyan Sharma and many more. Great effort by the poetesses who mesmerized everyone with their poems were Vini Kalia, Vandana Khurana, Anita Anand Nayyar, Antareepa Thakur Mukherjee, Sangita Prasad, Dharti Vasani , Astha Deo and many more. The Hosts Darshana Shah and Sarika Handa kept the audience captivated. IIW Volunteers, Rupali Ravi, Su Rawat, Betania Fernandes, Chanda Jha, Anjali Sharma worked hard behind the scenes to make it successful. Refreshments were provided by Sangita Pandey.

Next the team had a mammoth task to get 60 British Indian children to a platform to express their love their country of ethnicity, India as they celebrated Indian Republic Day. This event is a first of its kind where each child who registers is valued and taken in without any selection process or audition. This programme was being organised by IIW since 2017 and has been the flagship event, very popular and most awaited, generating widespread interest amongst parents to get their child on stage to perform for India.

The purpose is to connect the children to their roots and support women Entrepreneurs. The programme which is managed by sponsors and donations. The most happening event was attended by MP Honourable Bob Blackman CBE, Former MP Virendra Sharma, Former Mayor Ramji Chauhan, His Worshipful Mayor Harrow Salim Chowdhury, Sonoo Malkani, Cllr Anjana Patel, Warrant Officer Ashok Kumar Chauhan, Retired Met Police Purnima Rawal and the one and only Lord Rami Ranger.

World Hindi Day at Nehru Centre

The IIW Team Chiyasami, Chinu Kishore, Nilanjana Paul, Heenaba Zala , Betania Fernandes , Shilpa Choudhary , Jay Desai , Neha Jethwa , Sudha Rawat , Gayatri Shenoy , Chanda Jha, Rupali Ravi , Nidhi Mishra Raithatha, Padma Jain , Soniya Joshi , Shipra Gomes , Kavita Gulati , Pritha Mukherjee, Alka Rahalkar, Seema Khandelwal, Riya, Sarika Handa, Vini Kaalia and Darshana Shah worked hard to make it a grand success. The event was houseful.

Meanwhile a donation drive for General medicines and toiletries is being planned for 14th February and a day trip to Vikramgarh Bamboo Village to empower the tribal women by learning the craft of bamboo product making and also buying their stuff is being organised by IIW on 15th February.

Diwali celebrations with Slum Kids at Mc Donalds

On 8th December a workshop Sshakt Mahila , Sshakt and Viksit Bharat was organised at Mayor’s Hall and attended by President of India Awardee Nabomita Majumdar, Dr Sukanya Iyer Expert on Government of India policies on MSME, panel member of many Government committees amongst others. The programme was organised for slum ladies. Earlier, the organisation celebrated Diwali festival by taking the slum kids to Mc Donalds as well as distributing stationary to them. In IIW North East Chapter, Rajni Shah the Deputy Director distributed shoes in an Orphanage during Christmas.

Next all eyes upon, IIW She Inspires Awards. The Award is an honest attempt to acknowledge ordinary women in the UK Parliament on the occasion of International Women’s month 2025.
