
Election Observer holds meeting, reviews preparations & arrangements
Directs officials for strict compliance of model code of conduct
Emphasises to ensure security, transportation, medical and other facilities well in time
Nominations to be taken till December 4, voting on December 14 and counting on 17
Sets up 10 zones for Zila Parishad and 82 for Block Samitis
Nawanshahr, (Asian independent) (jatinder pal singh kaler ) In view of Zila Parishad and Block Samitis polls scheduled for December 14, the Election Observer for Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district Special Secretary of Good Administration and Information Technology Department and Director Vishesh Sarangal today took stock of preparations and arrangements being put in place for free, fair and transparent elections. The Election Observer directed the officers to ensure timely arrangements related with security, transport, health and other necessary arrangements at all polling stations in view of voters facilitation. While holding a meeting at local District Administrative Complex in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh and SSP Tushar Gupta, the Election Observer reviewed the election preparations with the concerned officers. He sought information about the final publication of voter lists, returning officers, assistant returning officers, facilities at polling stations.
The Deputy Commissioner apprised the observer that 10 zones had been made for Zila Parishad and 82 for Panchayats Samitis in the district. He said that the district had a total 466 Gram Panchayats, 462 polling stations, 633 polling booths and 417240 voters. Of the 10 zones established for the Zilla Parishad, three were falling under Nawanshahr, one in Saroya, two in Balachaur and four under Banga. Similarly, 25 zones each have been created in Banga and Nawanshahr while 17 in Balachaur and 15 in Saroya for the block sanitis.Election Observer Vishesh Sarangal said that proper arrangements should be made in view of every aspect to complete the election process in a fair, independent and transparent manner.
Regarding the training of the election staff, it was informed that the first training had been scheduled for December 7 and the second training one on December 11. During this, it was informed that there are 118 sensitive polling stations and 187 sensitive polling booths in the district. Similarly, 31 polling stations are highly sensitive and 57 polling booths are highly sensitive. There are a total of 466 Gram Panchayats in the district, of which 132 are in Nawanshahr, 71 in Saroya, 131 in Balachaur and 132 in Banga. The Election Observer was informed that out of a total of 633 polling booths in the district, 189 are in Nawanshahr, 89 in Saroya, 148 in Balachaur and 207 in Banga. The total number of male voters for these elections is 216395 and the number of female voters is 200836 while 9 voters are of the third gender. Out of the total 216395 male voters in the district, 66611 are in Nawanshahr, 29518 in Saroya, 42800 in Balachaur and 77466 in Banga, while the number of female voters is 63013 in Nawanshahr, 27193 in Saroya, 38414 in Balachaur and 72216 in Banga. Regarding the Zilla Parishad elections, it was informed that the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) is the Returning Officer for these votes and the Zilla Parishad zones include Khatkar Kalan, Mukandpur, Kultham, Baharowal, Bairsian, Daulatpur, Nowra, Rattewal, Garhikangoan and Pojewal.. The nomination could be filed on December 4 while scrutiny of papers will be done on December 5 and the papers can be withdrawn on December 6. He said that voting will be held on December 14 from 8 am to 4 pm and the results will be announced on December 17.The election observer urged the officials to ensure strict compliance with the instructions of the State Election Commission to conduct the entire election process in a peaceful and orderly manner so that the entire process can be completed in a fair and peaceful manner.Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Avneet Kaur, SP Headquarters Iqbal Singh, SDMs of sub-divisions and nodal officers were also present.
