Prince Andrew is facing serious pressure from King Charles and Prince William to leave his large home at Royal Lodge. This ongoing saga has been going on for some time. There are several reasons why the royal family wants him gone.
The Epstein Scandal
Prince Andrew’s biggest problem is his connection to Jeffrey Epstein, a criminal who abused young women. Virginia Giuffre claimed that when she was 17, Epstein forced her to have sex with Prince Andrew three times. Andrew has always said this never happened, but in 2022 he paid Giuffre millions of pounds to settle her lawsuit against him.
The New Book Made Things Worse
In October 2025, Virginia Giuffre’s book “Nobody’s Girl” was published after she sadly died earlier in the year. The book gave detailed descriptions of her allegations against Andrew. The timing was very bad for the royal family. Just before the book came out, newspapers also printed an email from 2011 where Andrew told Epstein “we are in this together.” This was embarrassing because Andrew had claimed he stopped talking to Epstein in 2010.
These new revelations made the scandal explode again in the media. On October 17, 2025, Andrew announced he would stop using his Duke of York title after talking with King Charles. The royal family hoped this would calm things down, but it did not work.
The Royal Lodge Problem
Royal Lodge is a huge mansion with 30 rooms in Windsor. Andrew has lived there since 2003. The problem is that Andrew has been living there almost rent-free. His lease says he only has to pay “one peppercorn per year if demanded.” He did pay millions of pounds upfront when he first got the lease, but many people think it is unfair that he lives in such a grand property for free while ordinary people struggle with housing costs.
The public is angry that Andrew lives in luxury despite the scandals. King Charles has tried to force Andrew out by cutting off his money and security funding, but Andrew has a legal lease that lasts until 2078, so he cannot be easily evicted.
Why Now?
The pressure increased because:
1. The book’s publication brought all the allegations back into the headlines
2.King Charles was making an important historic visit to meet the Pope, but all the media talked about was Andrew instead
3.Prince William has been putting pressure on his uncle behind the scenes
4.Members of Parliament and the public are demanding action
5.The royal family’s reputation is being damaged every day Andrew stays in the spotlight
The royal family wants to protect the monarchy’s image. Having Andrew living in a royal mansion while facing these serious allegations looks very bad. They believe if Andrew moved somewhere smaller and quieter, there would be less attention on the scandal.
The Abu Dhabi Option
Recent media reports say Andrew has been offered a palace in Abu Dhabi by the ruler, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The offer is said to be free, as a thank you for Andrew’s past kindness to UAE royals when he worked as a trade ambassador.
The palace in Abu Dhabi has six bedrooms, a gym, swimming pool, and is fully staffed. Royal experts believe Andrew is being encouraged to take this offer because:
1. It would get him out of Britain and away from media attention
2. He would be treated with respect there and could live comfortably
3. It would solve the Royal Lodge problem for King Charles
4. The royal family could move on without constant negative headlines
However, Andrew would have to adjust to the very hot climate in the desert. If he moves there, he would join Spain’s former King Juan Carlos, who also moved to Abu Dhabi after his own corruption scandal.
The Bottom Line
The royal family wants Andrew to leave Royal Lodge because every day he stays there reminds the public of the Epstein scandal. The book’s publication in October 2025 made the situation urgent. King Charles and Prince William believe the only way to protect the monarchy is to distance it completely from Andrew, and that means getting him out of royal properties and possibly out of the country entirely.
Andrew’s lease makes it hard to force him out legally, so the royal family is applying pressure by cutting his money and encouraging him to accept the Abu Dhabi offer. They hope he will eventually agree to leave voluntarily.
