New York, The US dollar declined on Wednesday amid the rapid spread of the coronavirus across the country.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.95 per cent at 101.0662 in late trading.
In late New York trading, the euro was up to $1.0867 from $1.0757 in the previous session, and the British pound increased to $1.1870 from $1.1748 in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to $0.5960 from $0.5912, Xinhua reported.
The US dollar bought 111.36 Japanese yen, lower than 111.46 Japanese yen of the previous session. The US dollar fell to 0.9779 Swiss franc from 0.9831 Swiss franc, and it fell to 1.4204 Canadian dollars from 1.4492 Canadian dollars.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the US topped 60,000 on Wednesday noon, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. The fresh figure reached 62,068 with 869 deaths, the CSSE said.
