UAE one of the largest international donor to the Yemen

(Asian Independent)- According to UN’s Financial Tracking Service (FTS),  the UAE ranked second place after Saudi Arabia as the biggest backer of Yemen’s Humanitarian.The UAE’s humanitarian campaign, represented by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has stepped up operations since 2017.

According to the UAE government, it has spent more than 6.25 billion on relief and rescue operations in Yemen from 2015 to 2021. It has sent 122 tonnes of medicine, medical equipment and other items in six planes to deal with the corona epidemic. The United Arab Emirates has provided 230 million to tackle malnutrition in Yemen. The value of assistance provided by the UAE to Yemen from April 2015 through February 2020 amounted to over AED22 billion (US$6 billion), according to the Emirates Red Crescent’s latest figures.

The UAE support addressing the UAE health system also included supplying Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital in the Socotra Island with all required medical equipment; maintenance and restoration of the Irka Health Center in Shabwa Governorate; and the full rehabilitation and maintenance of Al Mokha General Hospital in the Yemeni Governorate of Taez.

The UAE supported the educational system with air-conditioning, transport vehicles and classroom supplies, including 19,233 school double chairs, 4,816 school boards, 328 water coolers, 190 air conditioners, 25 school umbrellas, and 70 transport vehicles.

The money has been given to dozens of UN agencies, international organisations and local NGOs. The largest recipients include the World Food Programme, United Nations Children’s Fund, World Health Organization and the UN refugee agency. The charitable work being carried out by the UAE in Yemen is appreciated by the international community and agencies.
