Istanbul, (Asian independent) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday said thanks to the vaccine doses he received, he has swiftly recovered from the Covid-19.

Erdogan on Thursday tested negative for Covid-19, only six days after he tweeted that he and his wife were infected by the Omicron variant of the virus, Xinhua news agency reported.

“I pulled through the illness very easily. Of course, the benefit of the vaccines was certain,” Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul, noting he has been vaccinated with two doses of Sinovac and three shots of BioNTech.

“Thanks to the effect of these vaccines, I recovered comfortably in a short time,” he said.

Erdogan added that his wife has not yet been fully recovered and the infection is still on, but all kinds of precautions have been taken.

Turkey launched its vaccination campaign on January 14, 2021, with China’s Sinovac vaccine, and later included the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the program. It started to use the indigenous Covid-19 vaccine Turcovac at the end of December in 2021.
