Keir Starmer’s position as Prime Minister has become untenable. The Mandelson scandal isn’t just another political embarrassment – it’s a devastating failure of judgment that calls into question his fitness to lead.
The facts are damning.
Starmer appointed Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States knowing he had maintained ties with Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor. He knew this, yet appointed him anyway. When pressed, Starmer claims he was “lied to” about the depth of the relationship. But this excuse doesn’t wash. Either he failed to properly vet his own ambassador, or he knowingly ignored red flags. Neither option is acceptable.
The British people deserve better. They deserve a Prime Minister who puts principle before political convenience, who shows sound judgment in appointments, and who takes responsibility when things go catastrophically wrong.
Starmer has failed on all counts.
His poll numbers tell the story. The public has lost faith in him. His own MPs are furious and openly questioning his judgment. Yet he clings to power, seemingly more concerned with his own position than with the damage he’s doing to his party and country.
A leader with honour would recognize when they’ve lost the moral authority to govern. They would put country before career and step aside. But Starmer continues, dragging Labour down with him.
The Prime Minister often speaks about integrity and accountability. Now is the time to show he means it. The honourable thing – the only thing – is to resign.
