Leicester- The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) strongly condemns the military strikes launched on 28 February 2026 by the governments of the United States and Israel against Iran. This escalation has dramatically increased tensions in the Middle East and risks wider regional and global instability.
Within days, reports indicated that hundreds were killed and thousands injured, including civilians. Such loss of life highlights the urgent need for restraint and an immediate return to diplomacy.
These attacks were carried out without broad international consensus and at a time when diplomatic efforts had not been fully exhausted. The use of force under such circumstances raises serious concerns under international law and threatens to weaken already fragile global stability.
History shows that military intervention rarely produces lasting peace. Instead, it often deepens conflict, fuels resentment and places the greatest burden on ordinary people — workers, families and vulnerable communities. Escalation in such a volatile region also carries the serious risk of drawing in additional regional and global powers. In a world with advanced weaponry and nuclear capabilities, miscalculation could have catastrophic consequences.
The United Kingdom must take a clear and principled position. The British government should unequivocally oppose further escalation and ensure that no British military bases, intelligence cooperation, logistical support or arms exports are used in connection with this conflict. A full and immediate review of arms sales and defence cooperation is essential to prevent UK involvement in a widening war.
Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary, Indian Workers Association (Great Britain), said:
“Peace and diplomacy were possible. Choosing military force over dialogue increases the danger for ordinary people everywhere. True leadership requires restraint, respect for international law and commitment to negotiation. The world cannot afford another devastating conflict.”
The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) calls for immediate de-escalation, a ceasefire and renewed diplomatic engagement through international frameworks.
