Some British prisons have stopped using sniffer dogs to search certain Muslim prisoners, especially those convicted of terrorism-related crimes. This is because some prisoners said that dogs offend their religious beliefs. So, prison managers agreed to stop the dogs in these cases.

However, this creates a problem. Normally, sniffer dogs help find drugs, weapons, and other dangerous items to keep prisons safe. By not using dogs on some prisoners, it may weaken security and put staff and other prisoners at risk. It also means different rules are applied to different groups of prisoners, which can seem unfair and create tension.

The Home Office, which runs the prisons, has not clearly said they will reverse this policy. They seem worried that forcing the dogs on these prisoners might cause more religious conflict or unrest. But many people say safety should come first and that a two-tier system, where some prisoners get special treatment because of religion, is unfair and dangerous.

In short, this dog ban shows how difficult it is to balance religious respect with prison safety, and critics say the government has so far failed to fix this problem properly .
