Her death stands as a stark reminder that domestic abuse can remain hidden until it becomes fatal.
According to reporting on the case, Harminder Mattu was convicted of murdering his wife after she had begun divorce proceedings. That detail is important because it suggests the killing was linked to her attempt to leave the marriage, a moment when victims of domestic abuse are often at greatest risk.
