Leicester, 4 April 2026 — The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) has called for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, warning that the war is causing immense human suffering and must be stopped without delay.

The organisation said that the first and most urgent priority must be to stop the war, which has already resulted in the deaths of thousands of people. Many more have been injured and countless families have been forced to leave their homes. Ordinary civilians are suffering the most from the violence and destruction.

The Association urged the United Nations Security Council to come forward and play a responsible role in stopping the war and preventing further escalation of the conflict.

Recent discussions at the United Nations Security Council focused on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important international shipping routes in the world. A draft resolution supported by some countries proposed authorising the use of military force to reopen the route.

However, during discussions on 2–3 April 2026, permanent members of the Security Council — Russia, China and France — raised serious concerns that authorising the use of military force could escalate the conflict and potentially lead to a wider war. Their objections prevented the resolution from moving forward in its original form.

Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary of the Indian Workers Association (Great Britain), said:

“The first responsibility of the international community must be to stop the war. Thousands of innocent people have already lost their lives, many more have been injured, and countless families have been left homeless. War only brings suffering to ordinary people.”

“International law must be respected by all countries. No nation, no matter how powerful, should place itself above international law. The sovereignty of every country must be respected, and no state should interfere in the internal affairs or governance of another nation.”

“We welcome the voices within the United Nations Security Council that warned against further military escalation. The world does not need another war — what the world needs now is peace, responsible leadership and serious diplomacy.”

The Indian Workers Association also emphasised that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital international trade route, through which a significant share of the world’s energy supplies passes. Any disruption in this region could have serious consequences for the global economy and for the livelihoods of working people across the world.

The Association also calls on the UK Government to use its diplomatic influence to support international efforts aimed at reducing tensions, promoting dialogue, and working through the United Nations to achieve a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The organisation called on the United Nations, world leaders and the international community to support diplomatic efforts, protect civilian lives, reduce tensions and work together for a peaceful and lasting solution.
