The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) has raised serious concern over the tone of the UK’s immigration debate, warning that people who have lived and worked in Britain for years are now being made to feel unsafe.

Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary of IWA GB, said many migrants who hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and have spent decades contributing to the economy are being unfairly targeted and treated as outsiders.

“People who have made Britain their home, who work hard, pay taxes and raise families, should not be made to live in fear,” said Sital Singh Gill.
“They help run our hospitals, care homes, factories, taxis and shops. They have built this country with their hands and hearts.”

Gill warned that the government’s new visa rules — including tougher English language tests, higher salary thresholds and stricter family restrictions — will hit working-class families the hardest.

“Many of our people already work long hours for low pay and face rising living costs,” he said. “These changes will only make life harder for those who keep this country running.”

Calling for an end to “political games with people’s lives,” Gill urged all parties to treat migrants with fairness and respect.

“Stop the threats. Stop the division. Stop using immigration as a political weapon,” he said. “Britain must remain a fair and welcoming country for everyone who contributes to it.”
