He lived 168 years in his native village of Barzavu, setting an unprecedented longevity record. Muslimov’s documents stated that he was born on March 26, 1805, and died on September 2, 1973. According to Muslimov, his father lived to be 110, and his mother to be 90. At 136, he married Khatum Khanum, who was 57. Most astonishingly, despite his age, 136, he soon became a father. The “young” couple had a daughter. This is a record age in world history for a man to become a father.

A documentary film, “Shirali Descends from the Mountains,” was made about him in Russia.

The secret of his longevity is simple:

He ate fruits, vegetables, fresh cheese, and honey. He drank spring water, and in the last years of his 168-year life, he drank tea made from various plants.

He worked as a shepherd for about 150 years, walking 10-20 kilometers daily with his herd.
He never drank alcohol, never smoked, and never overindulged in food. Shirali Muslimov said: “One must always work. Idleness breeds laziness, and laziness breeds death.”
