S.Korean President’s approval rating again dips

Seoul, (Asian independent) South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s approval rating fell 2.2 percentage points to 44.4 per cent last week, marking the latest in a series of national surveys that gave the leader a negative rating, a new poll revealed on Monday.

The negative assessment on Yoon’s conduct of state affairs gained 2.5 percentage points to 50.2 per cent, according to local pollster Realmeter.

Support for the ruling conservative People Power Party dipped 1.3 percentage points over the week to 43.5 per cent last week, reports Xinhua news agency.

The main liberal opposition Democratic Party’s approval rating rose 0.8 percentage points to 40.3 percent.

The minor progressive Justice Party garnered 4.4 percent of support score last week, up 0.2 percentage points from the prior week.

Another poll released on Sunday by Research View, 51 per cent of the polled said Yoon has been doing an inadequate job as President, while 45 per cent said he is handling state affairs well.

In Research View’s previous poll on Yoon from May 28-30, Yoon had a 53 per cent approval rating, with only 40 per cent giving a negative performance review on the new President.

Previously, in a Realmeter survey from June 20-24, the disapproval rating for Yoon came out to 47.7 per cent, 1.1 percentage points higher than the approval rating.

A poll by the Korea Society Opinion Institute, conducted on June 24 and 25, showed the disapproval rating at 47.4 per cent, compared with an approval rating of 46.8 per cent.
