Indian cricket’s future looks incredibly bright, and two young talents are proving why. Wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu and right-handed batsman Aaron George Varghese have both emerged as vital members of India’s Under-19 Asia Cup squad, each bringing their own style and substance to the team.

Abhigyan Kundu: The Record Breaker

Seventeen-year-old Abhigyan Kundu made history by becoming the first Indian to score a double century in Youth ODIs, smashing an unbeaten 209 off just 125 balls against Malaysia. What makes this achievement remarkable is not just the runs, but how he scored them. His innings included 19 boundaries and seven towering sixes, and he brought up his double century in just 125 deliveries.
Kundu is known for his composure behind the stumps and growing confidence with the bat. The left-handed Mumbai cricketer showed exactly why he’s considered special. He combined patience with controlled aggression, waiting for scoring opportunities rather than forcing the issue early. His ability to build partnerships was evident when he came in at No. 5 in the 11th over and batted through to the end, helping India post a massive 408 for seven.
His recent performance broke a record that had stood for over two decades—his 209 not out surpassed Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 against England in 2002.

Aaron George: The Steady Anchor

While Kundu grabs headlines with explosive batting, 19-year-old Aaron George from Kerala has shown he can handle pressure and deliver when it matters most. The right-handed batter captained the Hyderabad U-19 side that won the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for the first time in 38 years, showing his leadership abilities alongside his batting talent.
Aaron’s technique stands out for its maturity and soundness. Instead of hitting big shots blindly, he relies on good timing and smart shot selection, showing both patience and confidence . This was perfectly displayed when he scored 85 runs in the crucial match against Pakistan, helping India recover after early wickets fell.
In the tournament opener against UAE, Aaron scored 69 off 73 balls in his India U-19 debut, playing the silent partner to Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s aggressive game. The duo stitched up a 212-run partnership for the second wicket, showing Aaron’s ability to adapt his game to different situations.
His leadership experience and calm temperament make him invaluable to the team.

The Perfect Partnership

While the focus has been on super talent, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, it is Kundu and George that has caught the eye.
What makes both Kundu and George special is their sound batting technique combined with the ability to accelerate when needed. Kundu brings explosive power and the ability to play long innings, while George provides stability and composure under pressure. Both are wicketkeepers by trade—Kundu behind the stumps and George as a batting all-rounder—giving them unique perspectives on the game.
As India continues its dominant run in the U19 Asia Cup, these two young stars represent the depth and quality of Indian cricket’s talent pipeline. With their solid techniques and mature approaches, both Kundu and George appear destined for bigger stages in the years ahead.
