Navi Mumbai (Pratik Yadav) – In order to solve the parking problem in Navi Mumbai city, nmmc Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar has started taking planning steps and by conducting regular review meetings, in cooperation with the traffic police department, action is being taken to determine the parking policy of Navi Mumbai city.
In connection with this, taking a special meeting, Nmmc Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar reviewed in detail the details of suitable parking spaces observed during the inspection conducted with the local traffic police at the divisional level as per the instructions given in the meeting held on June 28. Additional Commissioner Sanjay Kakde, City Engineer Sanjay Desai, Deputy Commissioner of Property Department Nitin Narvekar, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Tirupati Kakde and Executive Engineers of all departments were present on this occasion.
In the June 28 meeting, the department officer through the commissioner had directed to conduct a joint review with the traffic police inspector of that department regarding the determination of no parking zone, even-odd parking, parallel parking zone and to check the current condition of the places where such zones have been fixed. Accordingly, the parking spaces which were inspected and presented were discussed in this meeting.
A team should be formed in order to avoid any problem in the future regarding the existing and proposed parking spaces and through them, which roads remain open in terms of parking and where there are no parking signs but there is parking, rickshaw stands – taxi stands which are not in the list. Rajesh Narvekar directed that various things like space should be checked more closely.
It was determined that this team should include junior engineers, sub-engineers, department officers and officers of the transport police department and regional transport department. It was decided to prepare a checklist of what to be inspected by this team and take action. The team has been directed to submit its report within 1 week by 12th July and the Commissioner has also indicated that the officials of the Regional Transport Department should be invited to the discussion meeting on this scheduled report.
Like fixing the space, in this meeting it was considered that the base rate of the parking spaces should be as per CIDCO so that the contractors should come forward to circulate the parking spaces. Similarly, a firm decision was taken that the contractor will charge the parking charges as per the rate fixed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and will not charge any additional amount. Discussions were held that after fixing the seat and base rate, a new contract will be drawn up.
The newly constituted team will do a dual task of checking the availability of the parking spaces submitted after the inspection at the departmental level and pointing out the vacant spaces. Similarly, along with determining the space, the commissioner also informed to submit the details of how many two-wheelers and four-wheelers can be parked at that place. It has been directed to plan all these places on Google map and instructions have been given to the concerned parties to do this work very carefully.
Apart from this, the Commissioner directed the property department to study the parking policy of Brihanmumbai, Pune and Nashik Municipal Corporation and to submit information about it in the next meeting. Also, the engineering department was instructed to plan the parking facility on the plots received for parking from CIDCO. Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar explained that it is his priority that while preparing the parking policy of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, it should be comprehensive and as a guideline for others, every aspect should be carefully considered and it would be convenient for the citizens of Navi Mumbai and the travelers visiting Navi Mumbai.
