Islamabad, The Pakistan Navy has seized about 1,500 kgs of hashish near the coastal town of Ormara.
In a statement, the navy said it seized the hashish — worth millions of US dollars — during an intelligence-based operation near Ormara, located some 360 km west of the port city of Karachi, Xinhua news agency reported.
“The successful seizure of hashish weighing about 1,500 kgs by the Pakistan Navy was an outcome of a coordinated and complex operation in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) of the country,” said the statement.
The seized hashish was later handed over to the ANF.
“The operation demonstrates that the Pakistan Navy is determined in thwarting the illegitimate use of our coastline and sea, and committed to shouldering national and international obligations to establish lawful order at sea across the Indian Ocean,” the navy added.
It did not say whether any smuggler was arrested in the operation.
Earlier this year, the Pakistan Navy had seized over 5,000 kgs of hashish and arrested a group of smugglers in another anti-narcotics operation.
