Memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister regarding the care of Buddhist Relics

Jalandhar (Samaj Weekly): Ambedkar Mission Society Punjab (Reg.), Ambedkar Bhavan Trust (Reg.), All India Samata Sainik Dal (Regd.) Punjab Unit, Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial Trust (Reg.) Buddha Vihara Siddharth Nagar, Dr. Ambedkar Welfare Society, Ambedkar Buddha Vihara Maqsoodan Jalandhar and Punjab Buddhist Society (Reg.) submitted a joint memorandum to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi through the Honorable Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar.

Requested in the memorandum that the Buddhist remains found at the Ayodhya site during the construction at the ground level for the construction of the Ram Temple are Buddhist heritage and should be subject to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).   However, these antiquities are learnt to be getting destroyed in crusher by the private party there in contravention to Section 30, Clause (1) Sub Clause (i) of The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958 (ACT No. 24 of 1958) amended in 2010.

The memorandum urges the Prime Minister to take immediate action to ensure that these Buddhist remains remain in the custody and protection of the ASI. Madam Sudesh Kalyan, Varinder Kumar, Baldev Raj Bhardwaj, Jaswinder Variana, Ram Lal Das, Sham Lal Jasal, Baldev Raj Jasal, Advocate Kuldip Bhatti, Advocate Harbhajan Sampla and Advocate Rajinder Azad were present on the occasion.
