Madrid, (Asian independent) Marc Marquez, the six-time MotoGP world champion, will miss the rest of the 2020 season as he continues to recover from a broken arm, the Repsol Honda team confirmed on Tuesday.

With two races left in the calendar, Honda have decided to complete the season with Marquez’s younger brother Alex and test rider Stefan Bradl.

Marquez had broken his upper arm during the season-opening Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez in July and had to undergo a second surgery ahead of the second race in Jerez.

“This season I will not compete again. After evaluating how the arm is doing with the doctors and my team, we have decided that the best option is to return next year. It’s time to continue with the recovery. Thanks for the messages of support. Looking forward to returning in 2021,” The Spaniard said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Marquez was looking to win sixth consecutive MotoGP title and seventh overall this season but he will now finish without a point on board. Suzuki’s Joan Mir currently holds a 37-point lead at the top of the championship standings with the penultimate race set to be held in Valencia in Spain on Sunday.
