Multiple convenient options for Punjabi Diaspora in Australia & other Southeast Asian countries to travel to Punjab

Traveling between Punjab and different cities in Australia continues to become easier with foreign carriers adding more convenient connections via Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Currently three carriers Malindo Air, Air Asia X from Kuala Lumpur and Scoot from Singapore are operating direct flights to Amritsar. These airlines connect Amritsar via their hubs to multiple cities in Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Gold Coast. A newest addition to this list is the flight from Adelaide by Malindo Air. Passengers from the Australia city Adelaide, can now reach Punjab without taking long journeys via Delhi.

FlyAmritsar Initiative Convener and Amritsar Vikas Manch Overseas Secretary Sameep Singh Gumtala informed that the airline launched the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide on 16 April, 2019. According to the schedule and booking availability on Malindo website, passengers can travel from Adelaide to Amritsar via Kuala Lumpur, 4 days a week on Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun. As the airline is flying its single-aisle 737 aircraft on Adelaide-Kuala Lumpur route, it will make a short halt of 1 hour at Bali for refueling the plane. Passengers will remain on board the aircraft while in transit.

Flight departs from Adelaide at 7:40am and arrives Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon at 3:50pm. Its connecting flight for Amritsar departs from Kuala Lumpur after 2hr 25min layover at 6:15pm and arrives holy city in the evening at 9:40pm. Total duration including layover time is only 18 hours 20 min.

In its return journey, flight departs Amritsar at 10:30pm arriving Kuala Lumpur in the morning at 6:50am. After a layover of about 10 hours in Kuala Lumpur, next flight departs at 4:55pm reaching Adelaide via Bali in the morning at 6:40am. During the return journey, it takes longer time duration of 27 hours 50min. Passengers can also take the option of longer layover at the famous tourist city Bali instead of 10 hours at Kuala Lumpur. Bali offers free visa on arrival and travelers can go out of the airport. Malindo aircraft has 12 reclining business class seats with 45inch pitch, an 11.1-inch touchscreen inflight entertainment monitor. Airline also connects Amritsar with Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth via Kuala Lumpur.

Gumtala said, Punjabis now have many more choices traveling to South-east Asian countries than ever before. This new connection to Adelaide is going to benefit travelers that earlier had to pay higher fares and time for travelling via Delhi. Passengers also have choice of 4 weekly services to Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Gold Coast by Air Asia X. Airline also connects Amritsar with more than 40 other destinations including Hong Kong, Bangkok, Manilla. Singapore Airlines low cost carrier Scoot also connects Amritsar with its major destinations in Australia & other countries on its own network and owner Singapore airlines destinations worldwide. Passengers have options now to get good short-time transit connections.

We are pursuing with Govt. of India and Punjab Govt. to facilitate start of dry and perishable cargo on these flights. Shorter time to reach various destinations helps in the delivery of perishable good faster. This will directly benefit and encourage farmers to explore international trade options by selling their farm produce.
