LONDON – The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) has welcomed the passing of the Employment Rights Act 2025, which has now received Royal Assent, describing it as a major step forward for working people across the UK.

According to the government, over 15 million workers are expected to benefit from the new law, particularly those on low pay and in insecure employment. The legislation introduces a range of new protections, including day-one rights such as paternity and parental leave, improvements to statutory sick pay, stronger safeguards against unfair dismissal, and measures to tackle exploitative working practices.

Commenting on the development, Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary of the Indian Workers Association (G.B.), said:

“This is a historic and long-overdue victory for working people. The new law recognises the reality faced by millions of workers in insecure jobs and begins to restore dignity, fairness and security in the workplace.”

He added:

“These reforms will especially benefit low-paid workers and those from Black, Asian and migrant communities, who have too often been left without adequate protection at work.”

The Association also acknowledged the role played by trade unions and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in campaigning for stronger employment rights, while stressing that effective enforcement will be essential to ensure workers can fully benefit from the new law.
