The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) has issued a serious warning about major UK immigration changes taking effect on 11 November 2025, saying the new rules could lead to increased family separation and disproportionate hardship for ethnic minority communities.

The regulations introduce one of the most significant shifts in recent years. Part 9 (Grounds for Refusal) will be replaced with a stricter system known as Part Suitability, applying across family, work, student and settlement routes. Under this new framework, even minor or historic issues—including short periods of overstaying, administrative errors, low-level past convictions and NHS debts above £500—may now result in automatic refusals, reducing the flexibility previously available.

Sital Singh Gill, Immigration Lawyer & General Secretary of the Indian Workers Association, said the organisation is deeply concerned about the impact on families.

“These rules create a real risk of family separation, and children may face the greatest emotional and psychological impact,” he said.

The Association said families from South Asian, African, Caribbean and Middle Eastern backgrounds could face the harshest consequences due to existing structural inequalities.

Mr Gill urged the Government to review the strictest measures, adding:

“Immigration policy must remain fair, proportionate and sensitive to the realities of family life.”

Established in 1938, the Indian Workers Association said it will continue monitoring the situation and supporting affected families.
