It was the best thing that could have happened to Uttar Pradesh after such a long period. The massive show of strength by #BSP and Miss #Mayawati actually made a mockery of those who were writing their ‘obituaries’. A few years back after the defeat in #UttarPradesh, at conference organised to bring #scstobc and minorities together organised by the rivals in Delhi, a few young youtubers asked me a question about BSP and its future. My answer was that the party will never die as it emerged out of the Ambedkarite movement. It has its problem and need rectification but there are two kind of criticisms. One, who never want #Dalits to be autonomous in their political preferences and second those who want the BSP to succeed.
The biggest problem of the critique of BSP is that Ms Mayawati has a mind of her own and she decide her own path. As a leading party in Uttar Pradesh she would not allow the party to disappear. The party will have its own strategies. The point is not what I like but the fact is that a majority of Dalits in particularly in #UttarPradesh are looking to Ms Mayawati to activate the party. Today’s rally has given people hope that BSP will rise up particularly in Uttar Pradesh.
BSP’s rise is the missionary work of #ManywarKanshiram who worked hard and spent time with the people before launching the party. Ambedakarite movement was already there in Uttar Pradesh and Republican Party of India too functioned there but political movement had evaporated as leaders compromised and got eliminated. In politics, parties and leaders will always make statements that arouse their workers and caders. It is a reality that BSP workers have an emotion to Miss Mayawati and consider her the real inheritor of the legacy of #KanshiRam. It is also clear that no other political leader in the present day time has that brand of a movement like Mayawati on whose appeal people throng in millions to Lucknow on their own. This makes BSP different than any other political party who actually invest lakhs of rupees and use the government machinery to bring the crowd.
BSP is not strong any where else. It only has its fair chances in Uttar Pradesh. The rise of BSP in other states actually depend whether it would be able to rise like a Phoenix in Uttar Pradesh. Personally, I would love to see BSP rise again and Miss Mayawati become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh as she is the most capable leader among all whose administration was far more responsible and accountable than both Yogi Adityanath as well as Akhilesh Yadav.
We would have loved to see SP BSP together but that is not possible now. Both the parties look for ruling the state. Yes, I would not like that these parties disappear. The importance of BSP is not merely in success of BSP or having a chief minister. Today, if Rahul Gandhi is going everywhere with constitution or Akhilesh is talking about PDA or BJP and RSS walking extra miles to bring Ramnath Kovind or Draupadi Murmu to the Rashtrapati Bhavan is the result of the success of Manywar Kanshiram and BSP politics. Today, #Dalits are not merely confined to the separate cells of different political parties but getting important positions.
In democracy, political parties come and go. We need multiple political parties in India and people must provide opportunity to them. Like Tamilnadu, I wish to see in UP and Bihar two social justice parties ruling the state. Will it be possible ? For that to happen, we will have ideological clarity. We need #ambedkar #phule and #periyar to compliment with the local icons of social justice. Sadly, #BSPMission2027 has forgotten Periyar but fair enough, BSP’s Ambedkarite cadre know it and respect him.
Let us see how #UttarPradesh will respond in #2027 but it is certain that people need change. Will the social justice parties in Uttar Pradesh bring that change ? BSP is readying itself and today’s rally has rejuvenated its cader which has been quite demoralised for a long time. The others fence sitters will only calculate things in the coming days. Once they realise that BSP’s core voter remain with it, things will automatically change. For the first time, it is the people who want BSP to rise up and to take lead again for Uttar Pradesh. Despite all criticism, Ms Mayawati has spoken fairly well. Let us see how it respond to various issues confronting Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. Today’s rally in memory of Manywar Kanshiram was a true tribute to him and it clearly indicated that people were waiting for Ms Mayawati to stand up and speak. She has spoken well. Let us hope she will keep the momentum till 2027.
