The session commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony followed by brief introduction of Maitreyi College with a documentary, after which, the guest speakers were felicitated with planters. Our Principal , Prof. Haritma Chopra addressed the audience and welcomed the speaker. The seminar was divided into two sessions.
The first session was chaired by Prof. Jagbir Singh and Professor V.S Negi. It highlighted the importance of educating women in mitigation techniques and what should be done when a calamity strikes. To emphasize on this many clips were played and what should have been done during the calamity was told. It ended with a question round and a physical demonstration on how to make ‘emergency survival chains’. The first session was then encapsulated with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Aruna Saluja.
The second session was held in a hybrid mode. The guests Dr. Sukon and H.E.Dr. Ahmed Al Banna connected via zoom. Dr. Sukon talked about women managing the world during the pandemic. He also talked about the wome’s development in the health and education sectors in Mauritius and how constant efforts are put by the Mauritius government to provide all facilities to the women equally.
Further in the session, H.E.Dr. Ahmed Al Banna talked about how many initiatives are taken in UAE towards gender equality and now, UAE is an amazing place for women in terms of living conditions and their overall upliftment with the government of the UAE making women’s economic empowerment a top policy priority. Moreover, he mentioned certain impressive statistics like how the literacy rate among UAE women is 98.5%. He also said that according to a survey by Georgetown University, women feels safe and secure in the UAE than any other country in the MENA Region. He believed that there are several opportunities for collaboration in the realms of women economic empowerment between UAE and India. His excellency welcome students and teachers to visit our library in New Delhi office to research to have balanced information about the UAE
The international seminar was ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Devangana Jha.
