Islamabad, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has sought a report on the health conditions of former premier Nawaz Sharif and also directed the Punjab government “to ensure that Sharif gets the best possible care in accordance with the wishes of his family”.

In a post on Twitter, the government’s chief spokesperson Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday that Khan had sought a detailed report from the Punjab government regarding Sharif’s health, reports Dawn news.

Awan further said that Khan had “prayed for Sharif and wished him a speedy recovery”.

Sharif was shifted to Lahore’s Services Hospital on Monday night after his condition deteriorated which was confirmed by his fresh examination conducted by the government.

The head of the multi-disciplinary medical board at the Services Hospital, Mahmood Ayaz, told Dawn news on Wednesday that the former premier had experienced a drastic drop in the cells that are responsible for coagulation of blood (platelets).

“Yesterday (Tuesday) we had carried out a transfusion of platelets. Today, his condition has improved measurably. Our board convened today and has recommended some more tests. We will be in a better position to comment once those results are in,” he said.

Ayaz added that Sharif’s health, otherwise, “is just fine”.

The former premier had been shifted from Kot Lakhpat jail (where he is serving seven-year imprisonment in Al-Azizia case) to NAB’s Lahore building following his arrest in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The bureau has obtained his physical remand till Friday.
