Leicester {Tarlochan Singh Virk}- Founded by the visionary philanthropist Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa and led by Bhai Jaswinder Singh Khalsa, Educate Punjab Project- a Uk registered charity run eight free school for children from underprivileged families of Punjab. The aim of the charity is to provide education to children in Punjab who are orchestrated to attend school and due to inadequate resources, they cannot go to school.
Today, Punjab is recognised for its prominent educational institutions and commitment to knowledge, learning and skill development. It ranks 8th in India in terms of Education, Health, Protection and Poverty of Females.
Hardial Singh Sehmbhi from Jagraon, a town in District Ludhiana, Punjab, India is the most educated person on planet Earth. Born in village Akhara, district Ludhiana on 10th June 1942, he has to his credit 35 degrees. Sikhs form 58% of the population in the India state of Punjab which makes it the only state in the world where Sikhs are a majority.
A stall was set up by the volunteers of Educate Punjab Project at Gurdwara Guru Teg Bahadur, 106 East Park Road, Leicester on Sunday 11 May 2025 from 10.00 am – 1.00 pm to promote and raise awareness about the importance of their work when Sadh Sangat gave their donations to support them/
Spatial analysis suggests large areas with high poverty in many parts of rural Punjab. Firozpur district with 73% of the population in the rural areas has the highest poverty rate in the state. Industrial development was not done at the same pace of agriculture development, and the Indian government had been reluctant to set up heavy industries in Punjab due to its status as a high-risk state boarding Pakistan.
One of the EPP volunteers since 2005 Ranjit Singh thanked the Management Committee and everyone who donated. He also pointed out that benefits of making donations is that children from poor background get good quality education. Typically, those children sponsored regularly get over 90% marks in all exams.
President of the Gurdwara Gurnam Singh Rai said” Guru Teg Bahadur Gurdwara has a Punjabi School with over 200 students. If you want to make a difference and change the world, the most powerful weapon is Education. We proudly support Educate Punjab Project. “
