Agartala,  Tripura Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Friday said that utilising the infrastructure of neighbouring Bangladesh, Tripura would be a logistic hub in the North-East comprising eight states.

Aaddressing the opening day of the week-long Budget session of the Tripura assembly, the governor said the state would be linked with the Bangladeshi ports, roadways and railway networks in near future making the state as a “logistic hub” in the entire northeastern region of India.

In his customary speech, the Governor said the state government along with the Central government has taken a historic decision to ensure waterways connectivity with Bangladesh which, in the long run, would boost trade and commerce and also attract industries in Tripura and create it a viable and competitive zone.

“The proposed waterways connectivity between Sonamura (India) and Daudkandi (Bangladesh) and extension of Agartala (India)-Akhaura (Bangladesh) rail link in Bangladesh would further facilitate transportation of goods and passengers.”

Solanki said that construction of “Maitri Setu” (friendship bridge) over the Feni river in southern Tripura and its connectivity with Chittagong and Mongla ports would make Tripura a logistic hub.
