Dr. Jagbir Singh teaches Geography in Swami Shraddhanand College, University of Delhi. Recently, he was invited by the United Nations for attending the UN Programme on Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva. Dr. Jagbir Singh has written more than 21 books on the issues of Disaster Management.
Dr Jagbir Singh was felicitated for his incredible achievements by International Women Club. Prof. Rajendra Kumar Anayath, Vice-chancellor of DCRUST, Murthal, Sonepat, Haryana, was the chief guest who extolled Dr. Jagbir Singh`s achievements in creating awareness among the people of the world and especially the Indian on how an individual can prevent deaths during manmade or natural disasters. It is a movement of pride that Dr. Jagbir Singh has represented India at Global Platform for Disaster Management (UNDRR) at Geneva, he said.
Dr Jaswinder Singh, Principal of Shri Guruteg Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi also spoke on this occasion. Dr. Jagbir Singh is a man of energy who motivates students, laypersons, men, and women to learn the skills of preparedness. Sh. Atul Katiyar, Joint Police Commissioner of Delhi also spoke about the achievements of Dr. Jagbir Singh.
Dr Jagbir Singh shared his experience about UN participation. Dr. Singh emphasized that every household should learn about the skills of preparedness for reducing risk during the disaster. India is still behind many developed countries of the world in tackling manmade or natural disasters, he said. He also cited an example of a fire that broke out in the coaching center at Surat killing more than 20 students. Such tragedies can be prevented if we take preventive measures in the initial phase. Emphasizing, your best friend is your next door neighbor who can extend a helping hand at the time of any sort of calamity, he said. India has progressed in the management of natural disasters but there is still more to be done. The government of India should allocate separate funds to run the courses on disaster management from the school level to make our society more safe and secure, he said.
Dr Ritu Saxena, Secretary General of International Women Club conducted the programme smoothly. Dr. Saroj Rani, President of International Women Club presented a bouquet of flower and a Shawl to Dr. Jagbir Singh on behalf of International women club on his invaluable contributions to the society and also presented a vote of thanks.
Several faculties from different educational institutions and students participated in the felicitation function.
