COUSIN BROTHERS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS RAISES £301 FOR CHARITY
Leicester (Asian Independent)- The birthday celebrations of cousin brothers Jorawar {6th Birthday} and Robinder {5th Birthday} raised £301 for UK charity Khalsa Aid International at Gurdwara Sri Guru HarKrishan Sahib in Oadby, Leicestershire on Sunday 3rd March 2024.
Two Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji Pathh from Sikh Scripture were recited by the priests of the place of worship. Prayers were said for the good heath of everyone as well as for the boys’ good education. Religious hymns were sung, and vegetarian food was provided to each person who attended the Gurdwara. Robinder and Jorawar were presented with a Saropa { Garland of Honour} from the Gurdwara Sahib.
Khalsa Aid is an international NGO with the aim to provide humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world. The organisation is based upon the Sikh principle of “RECOGNISE THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE AS ONE”. A stall held at the celebrations by Khalsa Aid raised £120 by members of the congregation, £80 by the Virk Family and £101 by the Management Committee of the Gurdwara. Balinder Singh Sama of Khalsa Aid said we are very grateful to everyone who contributed especially the Management Committee for allowing us to hold a stall. Our best wishes to Jorawar and Robinder on their birthdays.
SUKHMANI SAHIB PATHH
Sukhmani Sahib Pathh is a special, meditative and extensive prayer written by the Fifth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Dev Ji. It is a prayer that is written in poetry form, and it is meant to console the mind. The term Sukhmani comprises two words: Sukh {peace} and Mani {the treasure or jewel of the mind}. It is present from Ang [page] 262 to Ang [page]296 in the holy Guru Granth Sahib, the main scripture of the Sikh faith.
Reciting Sukhmani Sahib opens the closed door of one’s heart. Spiritual discipline is created in you, and you are connected with strength, patience, courage and infinite consciousness. The central idea of Sukhmani Sahib is that we can safely cross this worldly ocean by contemplating His Name in the company of a True Guru.
President of the Gurdwara Sahib, Bhai Harjinder Singh Rai, speaking from the stage congratulated the boys on their birthdays and that the boys’ grandfather Tarlochan Singh Virk Co-Ordinator of Punjabi Listeners Club who organises about five programmes at the Gurdwara every year such as Punjabi Language, Health and birthday celebrations.
