Conservative Party’s New Immigration Plan a Threat To Human Rights
Press Statement by Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary – Indian Workers’ Association
THE ASIAN INDEPENDENT UK – The Indian Workers’ Association (Great Britain) strongly condemns the recent pledge by the Conservative Party to introduce a new “Removals Force” as part of its immigration policy.
According to the announcement made at the Conservative Party Conference, this new “Removals Force” would be given sweeping powers — including the use of facial recognition technology without consent, compulsory immigration checks by police, and a target to detain and deport up to 150,000 people each year.
The Conservative Party claims this plan will help “stop illegal immigration” and strengthen Britain’s borders. However, the IWA-GB believes this approach is deeply unjust and dangerous. It risks turning Britain into a surveillance state, where people are judged and targeted based on their skin colour, language, or ethnicity. This is not the Britain that values fairness, equality, and human rights.
More than a decade ago, the Indian Workers’ Association (Great Britain) warned that such immigration measures “threaten the immigrants’ freedom and liberty, would lead to deterioration in race relations, violate an individual’s human rights, and will create a hostile environment for present and future immigrants.” Sadly, those warnings have now become reality. The Conservative Party’s latest proposal continues the same hostile agenda.
If implemented, these policies will not only harm undocumented migrants but also cause fear and discrimination among millions of law-abiding residents from South Asian, African, and Caribbean backgrounds. They will increase mistrust between communities and public authorities, damaging the social harmony that generations have worked hard to build.
Britain’s strength has always come from its diversity, fairness, and respect for human dignity. Policies that criminalise and divide communities go against the values of justice and equality on which this country prides itself.
The IWA-GB calls upon all political parties, trade unions, community organisations, and human rights defenders to unite against these divisive proposals. Immigration policy must be based on compassion, truth, and respect for every individual — not on fear, hostility, or racial profiling.
