CHILDREN KIRTAN DARBAR IN LEICESTERSHIRE
RAISED £324 FOR PUNJAB

Leicester (ASIAN INDEPENDENT UK) Children Kirtan Darbar took place in at Gurdwara Shri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji, 48 Kenilworth Drive, Oadby, Leicestershire on Saturday 20th September from 6.30 to 9.00 pm in Loving memory of 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji which four Children Kirtan Jathas participated. The event raised £324 for Punjab floods.

Miri Piri Kirtani Jatha started the programme in which Manjodh Singh, Jaskirat Kaur and Avjaad Singh recited kirtan. This was followed by Sangat Khalsa Jatha consisting of brothers Amitoj Singh and Gurnoor Singh. Both these jathas recite Kirtan at the Gurdwara Sahib from time to time. Newly formed Khalsa Soorme Kavishri Jatha were next on stage. Taaru Singh, Gursewak Singh and Hukam Singh were all about 7 years of age and attend the Falcons Sikh School on Gipsy Lane, Leicester.

Mansukhpreet Kaur Khalsa recited kirtan for about 25 minutes when other children interested in Kirtan sat on the stage. Mansukhpreet Kaur Khalsa used to recite the Nitnem Banis when Sikh TV channels started and was only 3 years when she took part in a Children In Need Kirtan Darbar which raised more than £600.

Trophies for each Jatha, Certificate and Sikhi Bag containing books on Sikhism and pens for each child and a Sikh book for parents of the Children Kirtan Jathas were presented by Kirtan teacher Giani Harjinder Singh, General Secretary of the Gurdwara Gurjit Singh Samra and Gurdwara Sewadars Kuldip Singh and Jarnail Singh.

One of the organisers of the event Tarlochan Singh Virk, Co-Ordinator Punjabi Listeners Club thanked the Gurdwara Management, all the Children Kirtan Jathas, Amanpreet Singh Atwal, Dr Sandip Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Gurshaanjot Singh and Giani Gobind Singh Ji for all their assistance.

President of the Gurdwara Sahib, Bhai Harjinder Singh Rai managed the stage and thanked all the Kirtan Jatha’s parents for all their encouragement and support in teaching their children Gurbani Kirtan. He also said Children Kirtan Darbars will be held regularly and the £324 raised will be given to Khalsa Aid International representative.
