Guests spanning four generations took part in a vibrant celebration to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Snake.
Organised by Birmingham Chinese Society (BCS), the round-table event was held this week at China Court Restaurant in Birmingham.
Dignitaries included Lord Mike Whitby, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Jenny Loynton, Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Ken Wood, First Secretary Xiang Xuesong from the Chinese Embassy in London. Beautifully compered by Rosalind Yang, Johnny Cheong & Tak Wan.
Performances included the umbrella dance by Ling Long Dance Group, karaoke by Steven Pun, CEO, OHANA 8, Union dance by Aying Man Kung Fu Club, Mongolian bowl dance by Sophia Zhang.
The evening also featured an auction conducted by the legendary Jeffrey Yap and a raffle with tons of giveaways. Sponsors included Grosvenor, Genting & Rainbow Casinos, Wing Yip & Oriental Supermarkets, Birmingham Chinese Parent Association.
Also in attendance were Birmingham University students Adrian Lee, Adrien Kok, Stephen and Dr Irene Ching, Yiyi Liu, Tom Li, Wing and his family from Ruby, a Lichfield-based Cantonese restaurant.
Full credit to Ken Tong and Irene Chu, Chairman and President, respectively, of BCS, who have organised this event for many years. Also for all that they and their volunteers do on a daily basis to help find solutions for people facing all types of problems.
