Kolkata, BJP’s West Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh on Monday visited families of two party workers, allegedly murdered within a span of three days in the state’s Purulia district, and said the party is planning nationwide movement demanding CBI probe into the killings.
He met both the bereaved families in Purulia’s Balarampur and said the party will do everything to stand by them.
“It is extremely sad that these young men had to die due to political violence. The protest is on. The movement will not be limited to Purulia or Bengal. BJP will hold nationwide protest demanding CBI probe into the killings,” Ghosh said.
The BJP leadership have earlier accused ruling Trinamool Congress-backed goons for both the killings and claimed the local police was acting together with the miscreants to cover up the murders.
“A lot of our workers are often threatened by Trinamool Congress for joining or working for BJP. May be same happened in their case as well. But no one thought that they would stoop to the level of killing people,” Ghosh said.
“The movement that has started here against Trinamool’s brutality would have significant impact on Bengal politics,” he added.
The party had already moved to the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter but was asked to approach the Calcutta High Court.
The body of 32-year-old Dulal Kumar was found hanging from a high-tension tower in Dabha village of Purulia on June 2, three days after the body of 20-year-old BJP activist Trilochan Mahato was also found hanging from a tree in the district’s Balarampur area, with a message inscribed on the back of his T-shirt, accusing him of supporting the BJP.
The Trinamool has, however, denied its involvement in either of the incidents. The state government has handed over the probe to the CID.
Police had earlier said Kumar’s death was a possible case of suicide even before the autopsy report was out, following which the district Superintendent of Police was transferred.
BJP President Amit Shah, who condemned both the killings on social media, is scheduled to meet the families of the two deceased during his visit to Bengal towards the end of June.
