Bedford Commemorates Dr Ambedkar’s Birth

Bedford (Arun Kumar)- Dr Ambedkar’s 134th birth anniversary was commemorated on 4 May 2025 at the Centenary Hall, Kempston, Bedford. The event was organised jointly by Ambedkar Mission Society, Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Bhagwan Valmik Sabha and Nirankari Satsang Bhavan. This was the second function in Bedford pertaining to Ambedkar birth celebration. First was celebrated on 14 April as Equality Day recognising Dr Ambedkar’s contribution and legacy in the matters of equality and justice. It must be reminded that Bedford Borough Council has officially declared 14 April as Equality Day and celebrated by illuminating the Corn Exchange, a historical council building. A special event to pay homage to Dr Ambedkar was also organised on that day.

A number of politicians, academics and community leaders attended and appreciated Dr Ambedkar’s monumental work for uplifting the marginalised communities and his efforts in enacting labour laws. Mohammad Yasin MP, Cllr Abu Sultan, Leader of the Labour Group, Cllr Harish Thapar, Dhanpat Rattu, Pryanka, Manisha Waghmare, Hemlata, Balram Sampla, C. Gautam, Joint Secretary, Federation of Ambedkarite & Buddhist Organisations UK (FABO UK), Dr Harbans Virdee, International Coordinator, FABO UK, Ravi Gautam, Ashok Teji, Nirankari Satsang Bhawan, Jaswinder Kumar, President, Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Bedford and Ram Pal Rahi, President, FABO UK and Ambedkar Mission society, Bedford, Nirmal Sondhi were some of the speakers who made a valuable contribution highlighting the significant contribution of Dr Ambedkar to the human rights movement, Indian constitution and gender equality.

Sufi singer, Sukhdev Jassi entertained the audience with his melodious vocals. Arun Kumar successfully anchored the event.
