Berlin,   Bayern Munich’s forward and captain Thomas Muller on Thursday apologised to Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico following a kick to the head during the two teams’ 3-3 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Amsterdam.

Muller was sent off on Wednesday for seemingly Kung Fu-kicking Tagliafico, who was trying to take down a high ball; the Dutch side’s Argentinean player got stitches on the pitch, reports Efe news.

“I would like to apologise to Nico Tagliafico for yesterday’s incident. It was not intentional. Get well,” Muller posted to Twitter.

The 29-year-old Muller is set to miss the first leg of Bayern’s Champions League last-16 tie, which will be decided at a team draw in Nyon in Switzerland on Monday.

Muller’s red card was the first in his professional career, a career that began in 2009.
