Buenos Aires,   US President Donald Trump has said that he hopes to have a second meeting with North Korean leader in January or February 2019 and that they were considering three places for the summit.

“I think we’re going to do one fairly (soon) – into January, February,” Trump told the media on Saturday night while aboard Air Force One, returning to Washington from the G20 Summit in Argentina.

Trump said they had discussed three sites for the summit but had not decided anything, adding that he was open to receiving Kim in the US at some point, reports Efe news.

In September, the President said that he wanted to schedule a second summit with Kim. However an impasse in negotiations has delayed the planning for the meet, which would give continuity to the process initiated at the historic summit in Singapore in June.

After Trump and Kim agreed to work towards the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula in the first summit, progress has been largely symbolic owing to the absence of a clear route map for disarmament.

The US has urged North Korea to take concrete steps towards denuclearization, whereas Pyongyang has demanded guarantees for its survival before the signing of a peace treaty.

During the G20 summit, Trump met South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and agreed to stay firm in the application of sanctions on Pyongyang until it takes significant steps towards denuclearization.
