Patna, A Bihar government official succumbed to dengue fever here, an official said on Monday, adding that more than 260 cases have been detected at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
The Gopalganj District Project Officer of Integrated Child Development Services, Sangita Kumari, 34, died at a private hospital here on Sunday, Gopalganj District Magistrate Animesh K. Parasar said.
New cases of dengue have arrived at the PMCH from different districts.
“In the past 48 hours, two dozen new dengue cases have been detected in Patna alone and the total number of people afflicted here has risen to 264,” said a Health Department official.
A total of 12 dengue patients have been undergoing treatment at a special dengue ward in the PMCH and over two dozens in different private hospitals.
The dengue cases have mostly been reported from Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Siwan, Jamui, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Samastipur, Saran, Nawada, Begusarai and Bhojpur districts besides Patna.
The district administration here has started a fumigation drive.
